What Is Scalp Micro pigmentation?
Scalp Micro pigmentation is the process of covering the scalp with injected pigment, using a non-medical non surgical technique and specialized equipment.
It is a solution for thinning or balding hair, it can give the appearance of fuller, thicker hair, or can cover balding areas of the scalp.
Tiny dots are tattooed onto the scalp using a specialized micro pigmentation gun. The gun uses a single needle to create the exact shape and size of a hair follicle. The needle should only penetrate the epidermis, going too far into the dermis can create a large looking follicle, or something artist call "A Blow Out". The dots then are applied to your liking to achieve a look of actual hair follicles on the scalp.
Is The Ink Used Permanent?
The pigment used for scalp micro pigmentation is permanent. However it is different from that of pigment used by tattoo /tattoo makeup artist, The pigment contains a special protein which ensures the pigment cures immediately upon contact with your blood.
The pigment does not have any additional additives or colorants and will only lighten over time. This alongside proper application ensures no blurry, big dots or discoloration will occur over time.
Does Scalp Micro pigmentation Hurt?
The number one question. I normally ask clients through out the process, on a scale from 1-10 how bad is the pain, Ive never received a response of more than a 3. As you can expect there is a little discomfort, complaints of mild pain have been reported.
I do advise clients DO NOT drink alcohol or take aspirin as pain relief 24 hours before your procedure as both act as a blood thinner and may cause unnecessary bleeding. If you wish to be proactive use non aspirins as pain relief prior to your procedure. Do not tan before your procedure, tanning can cause the skin to be rough and may cause the skin to not take the ink well. (DISCLAIMER: we recommend consulting with your physician to be prescribed or consulted about any pain reliever)
How Much Is Scalp Micro pigmentation?
The procedure can cost an estimated $1200-$3500 with Ink Hair Studios. A consultation will give us an idea of how many sessions is needed. The cost is based on area of coverage (i,e crown, mid or frontal hairline, scar cover up..etc) . On Average each session runs about $700-$1500. 2-3 sessions is sometimes required.
How Long Does It Last?
Generally most artist may tell you your procedure can last a life time. Most agree that it is recommended to follow up treatment every 2-4 years. However, depending on lifestyle; the average procedure last realistically up to 3-6 years. Fading will naturally occur. What I have found is that with the fading the more natural the look can become.
How Do You Match My Hair Color?
We use 3 different color options that we mix to obtain the color needed to match your existing hairs or desired color. The color may sometimes appear darker or skin may seem red, during the healing process. Allow 1-2 weeks to see full results of each session.
How Long Is The Healing Process?
The answer to this questions lies in the individual genetic make up of the client. The normal process or healing time, is about 1-2 weeks. During and after the procedure you may notice redness. The redness should subside within 2-24 hours.
We require you to wait at least 1-2 weeks before the next session.
What Are The After Care Instructions?
We recommend a number of things to help ensure the longevity of your procedure. We recommend you wait at least 7 days before shaving. Avoid activity that may cause excessive sweating. Avoid long term exposure to the sun, should you come in contact with the sun use a high level moisturizing SPF sun screen. Wait 3-4 days before washing your head if possible. If it is unavoidable use a gentle natural baby soap, with no dyes or scents. Use a natural daily moisturizer at all times and avoid alcohol based products. Do not tan your head before your procedure or after, wait at least 2 weeks before tanning.
